New Electro-acoustic music for trumpet
October 14, 2026
Today is my birthday, and I wanted to celebrate by sharing some exciting news about my musical journey!
I'm incredibly happy to announce that my doctoral dissertation proposal has officially been approved! After years of studying, performing, composing, and exploring new musical possibilities, I've reached an important milestone in my Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree at Temple University.
As I move into the next phase of my doctoral studies, I'm excited to begin developing a project that brings together several of my greatest musical interests: trumpet performance, composition, collaboration, and electroacoustic music.
To help support this next chapter, I've also launched a GoFundMe campaign, Support Antoine in Creating New Electroacoustic Music! I'll share more about that below, but first, I wanted to offer some insight into the project and why it means so much to me.
Exploring New Possibilities for the Trumpet
Throughout my musical journey, I've been drawn to the expressive possibilities of the trumpet, particularly its ability to communicate emotion in ways that extend beyond traditional performance settings.
My interest in electroacoustic music developed from a desire to explore those possibilities through the combination of acoustic instruments and electronic sound. What began as experimentation with audio effects, electronic textures, and composition has gradually developed into an important part of my artistic identity.
Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to present original electroacoustic compositions at the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival (NYCEMF), SPLICE Festival, and Clickfest. Each experience has encouraged me to continue exploring how acoustic and electronic elements can interact to create expressive musical experiences.
One aspect of this exploration that particularly interests me is the relationship between melody, harmony, and electronic sound. While electroacoustic music can encompass an enormous range of styles and techniques, I'm especially interested in how recognizable musical elements can coexist with experimental textures and electronic processing.
I believe contemporary music can be innovative and exploratory while remaining emotionally engaging and approachable to listeners.
From Personal Exploration to Collaboration
An important component of my doctoral project involves commissioning new works for trumpet and electronics.
Through collaborations with composers, I hope to explore different approaches to combining acoustic performance with electronic sound, particularly through musical languages that emphasize melody, harmony, and tonal relationships.
These commissions will contribute to my doctoral research while providing opportunities for new artistic perspectives and creative partnerships.
Beyond the dissertation itself, my hope is that these works will continue to have a life through future performances, recordings, and opportunities for other trumpet players to explore the repertoire.
I'm also continuing to develop my own compositions, which have become an important means of reflecting on personal experiences and communicating ideas that can sometimes be difficult to express through words alone.
Ultimately, I see this project as an opportunity to bring together my work as a performer, composer, and researcher while contributing something meaningful to the growing world of electroacoustic music.
Supporting the Next Chapter
As exciting as this milestone is, there are still significant financial considerations involved in bringing the project to completion.
To help address these expenses, I've launched a GoFundMe campaign with an initial fundraising goal of $10,000.
The funds will support two primary areas of my doctoral journey:
$6,000 toward commissioning new music: Supporting collaborations with composers to develop original works for trumpet and electronics.
$4,000 toward remaining doctoral tuition: Helping cover the academic expenses associated with completing my degree at Temple University.
I'm also actively pursuing grants, institutional funding, and other opportunities to support the project. As additional funding becomes available, I plan to adjust the fundraising goal accordingly and provide updates about the project's progress.
I want to emphasize that this campaign is not simply about completing a degree. It's also about creating music that can continue to be performed, shared, and experienced long after my doctoral studies are finished.
For anyone interested in learning more about the project or supporting its development, I've included a link to the fundraiser below.
Looking Ahead
Choosing to launch this fundraiser on my birthday was intentional. As I celebrate another year of life, I wanted to mark the occasion by taking a meaningful step toward something I've spent years working to achieve.
Reaching this stage of my doctorate has required considerable dedication, persistence, and growth, both personally and artistically. I'm grateful for the teachers, colleagues, friends, and family who have encouraged me throughout that process.
There's still plenty of work ahead, but I'm genuinely excited about the possibilities this project presents. I'm especially looking forward to collaborating with other artists, developing new compositions, and sharing the creative process through future performances and updates.
Whether you're able to contribute financially, share the fundraiser, or simply follow along as the project develops, I sincerely appreciate your interest and encouragement.
Thank you for being part of my musical journey. I'm looking forward to seeing what this next chapter brings!
MUCH LOVE & APPRECIATION,
Antoine
